We first heard on Friday that the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie was finally being written, and now it has a release date. The Mouse House has parked the fifth installment of the Johnny Depp-led series on July 10, 2015, giving Jerry Bruckheimer & Co. some time to complete the period epic. This will make the release gap over four years between outings which is about as long as it takes to forget that mermaids alone does not constitute a plot.
Other release date news from Disney today comes in the form of dates for Brad Bird’s mysterious sci-fi film 1952 starring George Clooney with screenwriter Damon Lindelof (December 19, 2014); a seating of The Muppets sequel on March 21, 2014; and a delay of the Angelina Jolie-led Maleficent to July 2, 2014.
Additional bits of news come with the 3D releases of Captain America 2 and Guardians of the Galaxy which were both no-brainers as well as the scrapping of a re-release for The Little Mermaid. It is safe to say that the fad of such conversions hitting the big screen has subsided, but that is not to say that a Blu-Ray release of the film in the format has been nixed as well.
